sophie kinsella.

I have an author crush.

And it's not some high profile, really challenging writer that makes me think incredibly intelligent thoughts. No, it's chic lit that I zip through so quickly I can hardly stand it and then want every one of my friends to read so we can talk about it and work through the very real crushes we've developed for the imaginary characters.

It's pretty great.

The author is Sophie Kinsella. She writes the Confessions of a Shopaholic series, which I have never read, but I did watch the movie! Instead of diving into that series, I've been salivating over her "stand alone novels," or the ones that come with their own unique characters and plots and keep me up late at night, turning the pages, wishing the books were longer so I could chill in that girly world all night.

It all started with this book, which I read the night before my last final ever:
Then I discovered half price books. The used bookstore. This was dangerous. I proceeded to buy these two books (at half price!) and devour them in about a weeks time:Now I have a problem on my hands. I told myself that I couldn't buy any more books until I read the (many) I still have on my shelves. But I'm starting to flail. I can sense the need for witty, quick writing and may have to give in and get the last stand alone book she's published:The worst part of all of this? She does have that Shopaholic series that I could always pick up. And she writes under another name (Madeleine Wickham), so there are more opportunities for a little Kinsella writing. These are definitely my guilty pleasure books, perfect for summer.

Do you have any authors, tv shows, movies, etc. guilty pleasures that you want to get off your chest? Because it definitely helped me.

If by helped, you mean I'm probably going to go buy that last book after work today.

Self-restraint? What's that?

p.s. if anyone wants to read any of these, let me know and we'll do a little swap!

  1. Just reading you talk about her books makes me want to read them!! I'm apparently in a Nicholas Sparks groove. I've recently read Dear John and The Last Song because I heard they were okay movies, and I know that the books are always way better, and now I just started reading The Lucky One because someone gave it to me.
And my guilty pleasure tv shows? Gilmore Girls. And The Office. And Friends.
Movies? anything with James Marsden. Or Hugh Grant. Or Sandra Bullock. Or Julia Roberts.
I could go on and on.

  2. Oh I do love a good Nicholas Sparks novel! I read Dear John over Christmas break and am planning on tackling The Last Song on my trip in August. Did you like it?

Gilmore Girls is definitely my guilty pleasure TV show! I have all of the seasons and have watched them far too many times. And my roommate has all of the seasons of Friends so we're going through them now - on season 9 right now! And my friend lent me all of the seasons of The Office last summer. We are like two peas in a pod! :)
